What are the negative effects of red light therapy?

Red light therapy is generally considered safe as long as you have a good quality device. Some rare, but possible side effects can include the skin becoming more sensitive to sunlight (photosensitivity), eye irritation (with direct eye exposure), and sin irritation such as redness (with extremely prolonged sessions or intensity.)

Can red light therapy reduce belly fat?

While it is possible due to mitochondrial stimulation, and some studies may suggest that red light can lower the volume of fat cells, red light therapy would not be our first choice for fat loss. Rather, we would recommend an infrared sauna as it is more efficient with detox, perspiration, and elevating the heart rate.

Can you overdo red light therapy?

It depends. If your skin sensitive to light or prone to dryness, then yes. If you are experiencing direct or partial eye exposure, then also yes. With any health and beauty device, always take the proper precautions and consult with your medical professional. As far as session length, quality red light therapy devices should yield results in 10-20 minute sessions.

What do dermatologists say about red light therapy?

How often should I do red light therapy?

Another tough question! It depends. Someone who is not sensitive to red light may be able to do 20 minute sessions 3-5 times a day, whereas individuals with more sensitive skin might do a 10 minute session 1-2 times a day or less. A good tule of thumb is to start slow on the lower settings and increase from there. In the beginning, one 10 minute session, on a low setting, every other day, will be a way to ease into treatment and still offer great results.

Is red light bad for your eyes?

Prolonged direct exposure at high intensities can be bad for your eyes. Always take the proper precautions to limit this.

Should I put anything on my skin before red light therapy?

The skin should be clean and free of MOST skincare products, oils, and makeups before red light therapy. Some of these can affect the penetration of the light. However, consider consulting with an esthetician, as they are skincare experts that can advise you about the specific products you use and the effects they will have with red light.
